I would like to save a couple bucks since I am without job right now. Damn economy. Anyway, I only need the big ring since I live in fort lauderdale and bridges arent real climbs. So can I just use a ultegra 6500 53 tooth ring on there with the dura ace 7700 cranks and 39 tooth ring? As long as the BCD is 130 I think its ok but any words of wisdom appreciated. how do you measure the bcd anyway? I assume its like car rims maybe?

thanks,
migity

Any 9 speed ring will work.
How many miles have you put on those rings? I've got some DA rings with over 25,000 miles that are far from being "worn out".

that is actually a really good point. while the big ring is worn its not worn out. I am just getting a new chain and cassette (going to with a bigger gear in back for an upcoming ride).
I just figured I'd go ahead and change the big ring out too.

Unless the teeth look worn, the rings should last through a number of chains.

If you replace your chain before it gets too worn, you won't have to replace the cassette too.
I replace my chains when they show between .75 and 1mm on a Park chain checker.
