I have a 2014 Cervelo S5 that I have installed a Wheels Mfg BBRight outboard bottom bracket (shell 79 mm) for Shimano 24 mm crankset spindles and paired with a Shimano Ultegra FC-6800 double ring road crank.

I was reading that Shimano recommends a 2.5 mm spacer on the non-drive side and a 2.5 mm and 1.0 mm spacers on the drive side. However, Wheels Mfg provides 2 x 1.0 mm and 2 x 0.5 mm spacers and states specifically that the larger spacers that may be indicated by Dealer Manual's may not be required.

Also, the inner chainring rubs on the Cervelo's rear stay with no spacers and even the 1.0 mm spacer.

I also have read that the ideal chain line for road bikes is 43.5 mm, which I'm already at with the crank installed with no spacers.

Can anyone provide guidance on this? I know I can "just take it to the LBS" but the point is for me to learn and hone my home mech skills.
