Just read a report that some Canadian Engineering students are building a car out of hemp fiber, They claim it is stronger than carbon fiber and is legal and grown for industrial purposes in Canada. They are calling the vehicle the Kestrel! Will it be out with bamboo and in with hemp fiber in the bike world?

Utilizing his own proprietary blend, the new hemp frames have excellent ride and handling characteristics according to product development chief, Carl Spackler.

"The amazing stuff about this is, that you can ride a hilly century or race a crit in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on this stuff."

Industrial hemp is pretty useless as a drug, and the drug varieties are pretty useless as fiber.

I think Calfee uses hemp for the joints in his bamboo bikes.
