Riccardo Ricco is out of the TDF after winning 2 stages--caught using rEPO. And then shortly after, his entire team withdrew. Velo News speculates some of his teammates might have been using it too given their performance at Hautacam.

Apparently rEPO is new enough that some thought it was undetectable but the labs had advanced their testing quietly and were ready for them this year. At least the anti-doping regime has teeth. Maybe they'll finally clean it up? Nope.

I have reached the point where I don't think it will ever stop. It will just be a part of pro racing. And I might as well say it before some else does: I'll bet speculation will rise again that Lance might have been using rEPO or something similar that was just undetectable a few years ago. I am not saying he did. After all, Eddie Merxx was even better IMHO and he didn't dope. But I am sure the talk will resume especially since people close to him say they know he did.

Not a good day for cycling's reputation. Once again.

And this is exactly why I've stopped giving much of a s*** about professional bike racing.

Haven't bothered to watch the TDF yet, probably won't get around to it either.

For me, it's no different than watching any pro sport. They all dope. I'll never achieve that level, nor do I want to, because I wouldn't want to do that to myself to get there, nor would I let my kids. But,,,, it's still entertainment, and I like watching it.

good riddance rick roll, red rum, rob roy.......

I don't like Eddy's statement" there is doping and then there is doping'. I am sure Eddy did all that was available in his day (testosterone, Amphetamine's, and cortisone).
The difference between then and now has to do with the ability to raise your hematocrit to 55 plus%. In Eddy's day a very talented rider could beat a talented rider doped...nowadays the very talented rider has NO CHANCE against talented men with a high crit.

As long as millions are to be made in pro cycling doping will never even come close to stopping. Here is the choice the riders face sooner or later>>>don't dope and retire broke with barely a high school education or dope to the nines and MAYBE get to make some good money and perhaps even buy Lance's house in Barcelona.

It's too bad but it's true...pro sport is all about MONEY...and big money = doping.

"Leave me in peace; everyone takes dope."
Jacques Anquetil...five time TDF winner
