When you are doing hill intervals do you go as hard as you can till you pop or try to pace it for a max sustainable effort?

It depends on the length of the hill and the interval I'm trying to complete.

I have a 6.5 mile climb that I do 20 minute threshold intervals on. So I try and hold a pace for my maximum sustainable threshold on that climb.

If I'm doing 1 minute intervals, I'll go until I pop, then rest until my next interval and do the same.

If I'm on a 10-15 mile climb...I'm more than likely doing tempo for the whole climb unless I have planned intervals for the climb where I might mix in some 1 min, 5 min or 20 min intervals on the climb.

my climb is only 1.2 miles at 7.3% avg. Takes me about 8 min to get up but I can easily go harder and then POP! Just trying to figure it out as it is really not that longof a climb. Thanks for feedback
