Hi everyone, my neighbor just gave me a Masi Gran Criterrium. He used to race but has lost all interest and "he was going to throw it away". Anyway i snagged it, although it is a 62cm frame, not even close to my 49cm size.

It is a 1982 "i think he said" and in overall good condition with minor paint scuffs but all stickers are in very good condition, it also includes the original campy crank. i have full intentions of giving someone a good deal so that they may enjoy this classis frame, but my question is how much is it worth?

Thanks in advance, Jaime

I'll ask around.

It may be a CA built one (still desirable) and I'll try to get a price.I know guys that worked there. I may be interested as well.

Update on Masi

I have done some research and have determined that the bike is a 1982 model that was built in San Marcos Ca. I am attaching a pic of the stamp on the bottom bracket which reads B8208 on one side and SMC62 on the other.
B-stands for second qtr build Apr-Jun
82-stands for the year
08-is the production number
SMC-stands for San Marcos

Thanks, Jaime

post it on eBay. give it a 10 day run. mention vintage and fixie in your ad title. state the year, the tubing type, and as complete frame dimensions as you can get. put all the info. you've stated here in the ad. run at least 4 photos 1 showing overall, 1 front fork, 1 bottom bracket even underside and 1 either rear or showing tubing label. set reserve at $375-$400 but starting bid below $10 and see what happens. Too bad you don't fit it. what a beautiful frame for free.

from what I've seen $3-400

for masi Gran Crits. I think it may be pre Tesch. I'll get more info soon. crazy because it says SMC and 82. The san marcos shop opened in 83 I think. so maybe (take a look to see if the the S was punched later,it would be slightly 'off'.)

I just looked at your pix

and the S does look like it wasn't part of the original (chk distance between letters)
Crank appears newer, early 90's would be my guess

Interested?

What are the exact measurements for the MASI frame (measured center to center)? In my zealous zeal to own an Italian steel bike I bought a vintageBottecchia that is a little too small for me. I'd be interested in your MASI. BTW, what color is it?

the crank appears to be a first gen chorus from around 1988 or so. Though it does appear to have the self-extracting bolts (like the C-record had). Its hard to tell from the pic. I'm nearly 100% positive on the crank though (I've got one). Have any close ups of the headset? I'm guessing 1st gen chorus also(which I also have).

Meusurements

JaeP, Masi meusured their bikes center to top on the seat tube. It is 62cm C-T and 61cm C-C. The tope tube meusured out at 58cm C-C. Unfortunately I did not take a picture of the headset.

The color of the bike is maroon color. Take a close look at the bottom bracket picture and you get an idea of the color.

My neighbor has offered me all the components that came off the bike when he took it apart in the late 80's. I am seriouslly considering putting the bike together and selling as a complete bike.

Thanks, Jaime

bike was most likely built by

Dave Moulton who later went on to head FUSO. Dave was a legendary builder, trained Russ Denny if memory serves me right and vanished.
typical masi measuremesnts, a tad short in the TT (how Italian). was just after the true CA glory years (when Faliero was here) the 70's frames go for around 700-900.
yes keep us informed.
