I was thinking of getting an AL Diverge as a nice all-around bike for commuting, hauling the kid in a trailer, some gravel riding and of course some relaxed MUT and road riding. What I'm wondering is how robust this frame really is? Is it really tougher than a "pure" road bike, or does it just have a different geometry and clearance for bigger tires?

I use mine in exactly the way you said, sans trailer. I also use it as my winter roadie. No complaints whatsoever.

Has anyone tried or bought the new Diverge E5 without the FutureShock? (so either in Claris, Sora or Tiagra). How's the ride? Is the frame stiff enough for some good out-of-the-saddle uphill efforts without wasting too much power ?
