My road bike and mtb fit inside my car.I just got an Electra Townie that doesn't unless I take off both wheels. My friend give me a trunk rack that only has the arms and no tie down straps. How can I best secure the bike to the strapless arms?

Multiple nylon straps with the plastic "fastex" fasteners work pretty well and are available at most camping-oriented sporting goods stores ... although I am always a bit paranoid about the plastic fasteners cracking, even though it's never happened to me.

Alternatively, get some 3/8" - 1/2" rope and tie "Taut-line hitch" knots ... see knot # 1800 at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taut-line_hitch .

These knots are easy to cinch down, don't work themselves loose, yet come apart without too much difficulty.

I have a hitch mounted rack with similar arms, and use both the nylon tie-down and a bungie over the top tube.

Also, I have broken one of the nylon buckles. When I stepped on it.:blush2:
