Quite wrong on a couple of things. No state in the U.S., that I'm aware of, requires helmets for adults. Most have no helmet requirements and a few have requirements for those under certain ages (most 14, a few 15, 16, or 17). From all of the research I've read it doesn't appear that foam bicycle helmets provide any protection for impacts great enough to cause brain injury and at best might prevent scrapes or lumps. At worst they could cause more severe neck injury. I won't wear one.

Millions of people in Europe and across the U.S. carry children less than 1 year old on a regular basis with no ill effects. I'd never put one in a trailer, but in a bakfiets or a bobike mini mounted behind the handlebars they're in good shape and likely safer than in a car.

Nothing like a bit of fear mongering.
