I have an older 8 speed cassette, just wondering how you can tell if it's Ultegra or something else. I've been been it is, but nothing suggests that. Please advise, thanks much!!

No, ULTEGRA is not stamped anywhere. Depending on the cog, it varies with stamps of,
S U ae, U ae,
U V W ae.

Thanks!

8 speed Dura Ace cassettes was darker than other Shimano cassettes.. They were dark grey in color... Ultegra was not stamped and silver....
I have a Dura Ace 8 speed cassette at home. It doesn't have a polished silver finish as quoted above and is more matte grayish. Also I think the lock ring says Dura Ace on it.

Sadly, there's no 6400 anywhere. Yes, it's silver, but that doesn't say much. There's no spider, all the cogs are full rings, riveted to each other w/ a spacer inbetween. The lock ring says Shimano Japan HG hyperglide 1 w/ the torque value and us pat #, that's it.
