January 9- rode to work. 60 minutes. Studded tires + fresh snow.

February 6- rode to work, 37 minutes. Studded tires + patchy ice.

March 4- Rode to work, 25 minutes. Regular tires, ice free roads.

Man, it's nice to be ice free.

It's butt-ugly up here right now- grass is all brown and matted down from being covered with snow and ice since late november, roads are still covered in salt and sand, the lakes are still covered in a thick layer of ice and the roadside glaciers are all shades of everything the plows picked up off the roads...

But the ice is gone off the roads and I'm able to really ride again- it's nice to be able to corner without worrying about losing grip. It's nice not pushing huge heavy stiff slow studded tires through the snow.

On monday, I made it all the way home without having to turn on my headlight. Yesterday as I pulled into the driveway, I was pretty sure the big silver maples in the neighborhood were all starting to bud out just a little. It'll still be a month before there's even a flush of green, but the ice is gone off the roads and i can ride again.
