Wrap with white electrical tape - when it starts showing too much grime, unwrap and re-wrap. Presto! Clean chainstays! No scrubbing, de-greasing, or cleaning of any sort is necessary. Plus, you're protected from heel-strike and chain slap dings.

right. And if you ride them but don't look at that part you don't know whether it's clean or not, and the bike will ride the same

And now that I rode it this morning it is filthy again. A couple of the communities I have to ride by on the way to work way over water the grass/landscape out by the road so I have to ride through the puddles they create. Bastids :/
