Important Recall Notice - S-Works Carbon Stem

If you own one of these, please contact your Specialized Dealer

In conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission,
Specialized
has issued a voluntary recall on the S-Works Carbon bicycle stem with
Magnesium Faceplate. The stem appeared as original equipment on the
following 2006 model year bicycles:
* Allez Pro
* Roubaix Pro
* S-Works Roubaix
* S-Works Tarmac
* Tarmac Pro
* S-Works Transition

The magnesium faceplace may crack or break, causing the rider to lose
control, fall and suffer injuries.
To receive a free aluminum faceplace, contact an Authorized Specialized
Dealer or Specialized at (877) 808-8154.

About 2,700 bicycles, manufactured by Specialized Bicycle Components
Inc.,
are being recalled.
The company said the bicycle's stem has a magnesium faceplate that
holds the
handlebar in place.
It said the faceplates on the stems can crack -- allowing the handlebar
to
break off the bicycle, posing a serious fall hazard.
The company said it has received five reports of the magnesium
faceplate
exhibiting cracks. No injuries have been reported.

The bicycle stem is black with the words "S-Works" and "Magnesium
Faceplate"
printed on it.
The stems were included as original equipment on the following 2006
bicycles
models: S-Works Tarmac, Tarmac Pro, S-Works Roubaix, Roubaix Pro, Allez
Pro
and S-Works Transition.
It was also sold as an after-market item under the name S-Works
Advanced
Composite Mag Road Stem.
The bicycles with the recalled stems were sold at authorized
Specialized
retailers from June 2005 through April 2006.
Consumers should stop riding the bicycles that have the recalled stems
and
take them to an authorized Specialized retailer for a free replacement
faceplate.
Consumers can contact Specialized at (877) 808-8154 or visit the
company's
Web site <http://www.specialized.com> for more recall information.
