I need an inkjet printer...preferably an inexpensive one, with inexpensive ink. I"m sick of this HP and Lexmark bullspit paying more for the black ink cartridge than I did the whole effin' printer!

My most recent Lexmark just crapped out on me, so I need a new one ASAP.

Also, why the hell is printer ink so expensive?

it's a scam.

you should just print less.
I'd love to print less...Unfortunately, that's not a possibility.

Are there any pricepoint laser printers or anything that would run as cheap as a Walmart inkjet?

what are you printing? if it's not photos, get a laser printer. The upfront cost is higher, but the toner cartridges last longer and more importantly, they do not dry out.

Most of the printer's I've bought for work have been HP laserjets and they work pretty well. Sometimes the aftermarket toner cartridges (we've tried Quill and Rosewill) crap out, so stock up when the HP cartridges go on sale (look for dual-packs). Also, be sure to mail back the old cartridges (pretty sure they come with a UPS tracking label in the box?). Many printers come with an 'intro' toner cartridge which is not full capacity, buy a new one right away to have ready. Some of the beefier printer models will accept standard or high capacity cartridges, those can be a good deal. I usually shop for these at newegg.com. Dual-pack + free shipping is nice when they have it.

I'm printing a lot of research papers and 20+ page construction estimate projects...Mostly black and white stuff.

How much more is a laser printer?

check out those sites like slickdeals.net or spoofee.com etc. I've been seeing laser printers for under 100 dollars on there pretty often.

Bent bought himself a color laser printer a few months back. If I remember, it wasn't super expensive either. He should come in here and tell you about it.

Mm-hmm.

Did I mention the fact that I'm broke as a joke? Perhaps I shoulda phrased the question something like "Which inkjet printer company has the cheapest ink?"

You ever do the refills? I get them refilled at Costco, it just doesn't seem as dark, the black isn't so vivid. But it does the job and its cheap.

We bought a used laser printer from an ex-office supply place online somewhere. Toner is more than easy to get on eBay, it's cheap and lasts a good while. For anything colour, I get my wife to print it out at work/we just go to the copy shop down the road.

I've looked into it, but the printer I have now has cartridges that can't be refilled (or some bs like that).

I use a CISS (continuous ink supply system) with my printer since the missus prints photos left and right. Pretty much has dummy ink cartridges with small tubing running out to the ink tanks next to the printer. Believe it was like $65 for the kit for a Epson CX7400, and it's just now needing ink after a couple years. Replacement ink was $24.

A co-irker just picked up an HP lazer for 150 bucks at OfficeMax. He then uses refilled toner cartridges.

Barring that check places like meritline.com for ink cartridges. I get three of the 4 pack kits for my epson for < 35 bucks.
