My (now) previous generation iPod Touch is within Costco's 90-day return window. The new one, while a few bucks more, has a higher resolution display, FaceTime, a faster processor, and it shoots HD video.

Should I return the old one and go gets me a new one? I feel scummy doing this for some reason. I guess because I feel so emotionally attached to Costco--I feel like I'm stabbing them in the back. But I want the new one. I WANTS it.

One of the reasons for a store to have a return policy is to keep people from concerning themselves with buyer's remorse. "Just buy it now, and if you're not happy with the product, we'll take it back!". Removing buyer's remorse from the equation helps them close sales, and today it means you get the upgraded iPod. Don't feel guilty.

But I love Costco. I want to marry it.

Love them more when (if) they accept your return and sell you a next/current gen Touch.
They don't even gave the next gens in stock yet. I'd probably just to go the Apple store and pick up the new one.

if they didn't want to get stabbed in the back, they shouldn't have turned their back to you.....just saying...they are just asking for it...

Trust me, you want the new one.

Stab Costco in the back, and laugh while doing it. Go Freddy Krueger on them even.

'Cuz, after all, they know you'll be back.

I'm betting that should (and you should) take it back, you'll end up buying something else too. So don't feel so bad.

The advantage with the new screen alone (Facetime is still a ? feature IMO) makes it worthwile.

I just spent $120 at Costco on Friday.

I also have a third gen I got as a birthday present not too long ago. When I got it, I knew it would be outdated in about 2 months. It's still a pretty sweet gizmo, but the new features on the fourth gen are really nice.

+1 on returning it. It's always frustrating to lose out on the upgrade lottery. You're paying a lot of money for something that should be the latest and greatest. You deserve to get what you pay for. Return it. Get the new one. And don't look back.

This is exactly why Costco changed their return policy on electronics. It used to be unlimited, but college students would go in and buy big TVs and then return them at the end of the semester and get their money back. If people keep using liberal return policies to upgrade electronics it will eventually affect us all by stores tightening up return policies and increasing prices.

IME, Costco is the exception to the typical 30-day return policy. While it is possible they might drop their policy down to the "average" at some point, I can't see retailers restricting their policies en masse.

This is certainly true...but isn't that part of the whole "free enterprise" business you people are so in love with?? If a store lets you do something you do it no matter what, until the day said store decides that that practice has become more trouble than it's worth and changes it. It's just so...beautiful [sniff].

Then again, in the case of CostCo you're probably going to walk out with a 36-pack of concentrated grapefruit juice, two ferret cages and a Garden Weasel along with the iTouch, so maybe they know what they're doing after all...

So, lemme get this straight. Somethin less than 90 days ago, this little geegaw was a 'must have'. Now, with no change to it's essential nature, it has become emotional landfill.

Hmmmm.

Now, about this love affair with one that profits from every interaction you've ever had, and charges you for the privilege...

Perhaps the dilemma is less problem than symptom.

Return it only if you don't want an iPod. Otherwise, sell the gen3 to me cheep. Your karma will thank me.

Couldn't agree more.

You are in love with Costco because they carry items that you like at prices that you like.

If everyone were like you then they wouldn't be able to carry those items at those prices.

Clearly, your one return won't make any difference and I don't think you are actually doing anything wrong by returning it, but you never know.

One last question, why would you buy an old iPod touch when you knew the new one would be coming out. It's not like this isn't the Apple model to lure you in to purchase the next new thing even though it only includes a bunch of new features that you'll never use?

Ferrets rawk. It's like having your own personal land otter.

Plus, apparently Eastern European women like to bench press them for exercise...
