I have just recently purchased THE Stem by ITM and put it on my Cannondale 6/13 with Deda handlebars. Has anyone heard of any problems with THE Stem on this set-up, or with THE Stem itself? A fellow rider has told me he heard of some cracking/ failing issues.

Isn't that the Mag stem that is so light, the manufacturer says that you're not allowed to "flip" it ??

I haven't seen any complaints around the 'net that stand out to me about The ITM Mg Stem. There might be some but I haven't noticed anything bad about that model.

All I can say is the regular Millenium stem has given me no trouble at all. I've owned a few different sizes of it on a few bikes since early '00. It's become my 'go to' stem over other designs I've had (Cinelli, Deda, Ritchey, TTT).

It's very light (as light as I want to go in a stem for my weight), stiff, generally doesn't work its bolts loose, treats steer tubes and bars kindly - even carbon, and has a great looking finish. That's enough for me.

I'm using a 120mm Millenium now that's doing a great job. The ONLY complaint I have is there are times I've wanted a different angle than the 80 deg.

With Uniko bar

I have one w/ Uniko bar and I have no problem with it.

Having said that as you know this is the crazy light Mag stem which requires special care. If the proper care is not given while installing and/or if the outer coating is damaged there will be failure. Thus Mag stems are much less forgiving than other material stems and likely to have more failures. This is the nature of Mag stems. All sorts of people install it. All sorts of things happen while they install it.

As with any critical bike parts such as bars, stem, etc, if you have any doubt, replace it.

ITM The Stem

I have The Stem on my Giant TCR Composite. It has several hundred miles on it and so far perfect. Do you have the torque specs for the handlebar bolt and the two bolts to hold it on the fork? I have read about two ITM The Stems cracking on the front of the stem where it is holding on the handle bar. Both cracks were a result of a crashes.
