The Dharma is like an Avocado!
Some parts so ripe you can’t believe it.
But it’s good.
And other parts hard and green
Without much flavor,
Pleasing those who like their eggs well-cooked.

And the skin is thin,
The great big round seed
In the middle,
Is your own Original Nature -
Pure and smooth,
Almost nobody ever splits it open
Or tries to see
If it will grow.

Hard and slippery,
It looks like
You should plant it - but then
It shoots out thru the
fingers -

gets away.

I AM AN AVOCADO by Kate Burnside

Through forty-seven years
I have remained green;
Though my skin
is tough and wrinkled
it wears a sheen and lustre
that bears the hues of
resiliance and change

My fleshy substance puzzles:
Am I savoury or sweet?
Delicious or non-descript?
And with or without texture?

But the stone
at my centre
is massive;
the heart of me
is huge
and inpenetrable -
out of all proportion
to my fruit

And what is it
that comes from there?
What legacy will remain?

I must take care
what seeds I sow
for whatever comes from
this heart's core
will reproduce
the same
after its kind

And others will reap
the fruit
of my harvest

Let me leave
no bitter taste;
Better sweet avocado
than acid bitter Aloes

Oh, and this was from last night.

I still have two avocados left so I'm thinking of making myself some more guac for dinner tonight.

Jesus man...I hope you didn't eat that all yourself...Looks like enough guac for a party. The only thing I hate about guac is how it turns brown so quick. I have a hard time eating it if it's brown.

My roommate and I killed that bowl. It was tasty.

Lime juice helps keep it from turning brown. I've never had the problem with it turning brown, but I generally eat it by the next day and I tend to be fairly heavy with the lime.

Lime helps, but after a day or two it always browns. I guess if you eat it quick enough it isn't an issue.
