I am in need of group riding skills! I see all these clubs/teams out on hunt club by ILL/Wis border. Where are they coming from?? I am interested in racing and would be looking for faster paced clubs as opposed to the social recreational ones. Today a fellow rider suggested Velo Club out of Lake Forest. Are they still around? Thanx for the reply's.

Well, let's start with Lake County (BCLC) - http://www.bikebclc.com/default/default.htm - The Wed Night Ride (Libertyville) will get you started. The A-ride (avg= 20+, times at 29-30) usually breaks of with 5-8 riders, not a big 'group', but a start. The Sun morning Caribou Ride will usually have the same riders. Some of the monthly rides are also faster - such as the Bull Valley Ride if you like nasty hills.

Kenosha-Racine has a fast ride (avg= 20+ but will get blown apart in the last few miles) on Thurs night - http://www.krbikeclub.com/ - out of the Sports-Plex on 165 just east of I-94 (Pleasant Prairie, I think).

M&M Cyclery (Mundelein) has a ride that normally starts at the Mundelein High School on Sundays at 6:30am, though they often meet at other places for special rides. Keep up to date here - http://mmcyclery.com/blog (strong riders that like distance)

Velo Club Roubaix (VCR) does rides out of Deerfield on Sat and Lake Forest on Sundays - http://www.vcrbiketeam.org/index.php - These will be larger groups (maybe 30 on the B-ride on nice days) with a lot of rotational work, etc. Be prepared to sit at the back and watch and listen until you learn what is going on and they are comfortable with your skills.

There are faster rides (VCR-A, Harper, Mafia) and many small rides, but these should get you started.
