Why, even at the top level, are the women's races set up to last only 40 minutes or so? I might not have the exact number right but I know that they are not an hour. Having had the likes of Ann Knapp and Wendy Simms blow by me more than a few times this year in the Seattle Cross Series I have absolutely no doubt of their ability to race hard and fast for an hour. If I can push out an hour, they certainly can, and look much better doing it.

I understand that in a shorter race the pace will be that much quicker, but it still seems kind of patronizing to make a women's race shorter than a men's race. I'd be particularly interested to hear what any women have to say on this one.
