I've seen lots of references to RBR members' Strong bikes, so let's see 'em. I just started the process with Carl, and am totally up in the air about the build. I think I want to go with a Campy grouppo, just because all my recent experience has been with Shimano. I'm particularly interested in fork choice, and wheels. This will be my first experience with a custom built just for me, and I'm really excited. No idea what I'm going to do as far as paint, either, so looking for ideas there as well.

Also, if someone can run down the current Campy groups, and which Shimano group they compare to, that would be great (e.g. Record = Dura Ace).

Thanks,
Jim

Strong frame compact

Hey Jim, I built up my strong last year with a full dura ace 10 speed group. Although I didn't purchase the frame from carl directly( Lucky ebay purchase) I did send him the frame to be refinished. When talking to carl on the phone, he made me feel as if I was just ordering a new bike. Anyway good luck with your build, dura ace or campy you got a great frame coming. I should be posting a pic as soon as the ksyriums arrive. All the best George.

It's really hard to do a direct comparison between Campy and Shimano (other than price points). They are just different. People will tell you many different things. The Shimano V. Campy topic has been discussed to death hundreds of times, and there is no clear verdict.

If you are used to Shimano and like it, I say stick w/ shimano. If you like the carbon bling factor in Campy and the fact that it's Italian, it won't hurt to try Campy.

BTW, I have 2 bikes w/ Record10 and 1 bike w/ DA10

From 2002. Dura Ace. If I could do it over, it would've been Chorus or Record. I've learned a bit in the last 4 years.
A helpful hint: if someone posts a thread, "Show us your _____ bicycle," it's guaranteed that TerryB has a ______ bicycle, and you will get to see it. He's the Imelda Marcos of the bicycling world.

TB, what crankset is that?

That's an FSA Carbon Pro. Which tells me that this is a pretty old picture since the bike now sports a DA10 crank.

Imelda Marcos? I feel so cheap.

I know it's a religious topic to some, but it seems to me by 2006 they must both be so good the differences are minimal. Mostly my motivation for trying Campagnolo is just to experience the 'other side'. That, and a handmade custom steel seems like it would be happier wearing Italian. :D (Uh-oh, hope I didn't just start another war...)

Keep the pics and responses coming.

After having a bad craigslist experience buying an old Lemond Victoire Ti/DuraAce/Kysyrium bike, I decided to meet with Carl and pull the trigger on a Ti road frame before I moved out of town. So, I thought I'd restore this thread to get some ideas for my build. Thanks...

I love that headtube badge! Reminds me of Soviet propaganda.

What's the wording at the bottom, does that just say "Strong Frames" ?
