Well first let me introduce myself as a complete N00b to this forum and a very new resident of San Francisco. I am in the market for a new bike, having never owned/ridden a road bike, only a bike with skinnys and a flat bar. I am currently trying to find a bike and shop somewhere either in San Francisco or in Marin. Use it for weekend and after work rides!

I recommend...

Roaring Mouse Cycles near Golden Gate Park. I used to ride mountain bikes with Chris, the owner, and he used to post on mtbr.com alot. I've heard nothing but good things about the shop.

Shops in Marin I like:

A Bicycle Odyssey in Sausalito
Village Peddler in Kentfield
Sunshine in Fairfax

I don't know as much about shops in the city, but two I like are The Bike Nook and American Cyclery.

In the east bay, since you didn't ask, Stone's in Alameda, Left Coast and Missing Link and Solano in Berkeley are all good.
