I decided to buy a fix cog and was able to pick up a Phil Wood for a great price on CL. Now all I need is a lock ring. Is buying a lock ring like buying a cog, where better quality is preferred? Or is a lock ring a lock ring, kind of like head set spacers, more expensive doesn't actually make it better, they do the job just fine.

Name brand lock rings usually have better threads. Business Cycles has a nice selection or if you want to buy from your LBS, they should be able to get you a Surly.

Note that Italian and Mavic hubs use a seperate threading therefore require a different lockring.

There are actually three types of lockrings; French (Mavic), Italian (Campy) and Japanese/English (Shimano). Surly fits Shimano; and Phil Woods fits (Italian)

Thanks for the replies, went out and bought a Dura Ace, which was quite inexpensive ($10.00). Everything should work just fine
