I will be in Sebastopol next weekend and am looking for a good route. Looking to get in 30 to 50 on Saturday morning. Does anyone have any suggestions or know of any group rides I could hook in with. Thanks, Matt
there are almost endless routes out of sebastopol. check out the srcc website - www.srcc.com and click the link for "10 great rides". there is one listed that might fit your ticket. the sebastopol-valley ford loop. you can also check their calendar and see if they have any planned rides.
another great ride is to ride out to occidental and up/over coleman valley road to the coast. you can do an out and back or loop it around bodega bay, avoiding most of Hwy 1 via Bay Hill Rd. and back on hwy 12. it's spectacular once on top of the ridge, especially on a clear day. or if you don't want to head to the coast, you can turn in occidental and come down to freestone, get some bread at the bakery there, go west on hwy12 up to barnett valley road, then right and up burnside and another spectacular view. and from there again numerous possibilities if you want head back home or extend your ride.
you can head north from sebastopol towards healdsburg and through the vinyards. take the west county path to forestville, go over mirabel rd to river rd then east on river just a bit to where u can make a left - wohler rd, then you can connect to eastside or westside roads or loop them when you get to healdsburg.
there is a 'new' map put out by the sonoma county bicycle coalition, that you can find at most bike shops here that you may want to pick up.
a nice coastal loop that is fairly easy to follow is to go north to the town of graton, left on green valley road to harrison grade road, left on hg to the town of occidental.. great little town with excellent pastries at the union hotel bakery... then take coleman valley road out to hwy 1, go north on hwy 1 to river road, turn right on river to the town of duncan's mills... another great bakery if you missed the one in occidental... then moscow road to monte rio, then right on bohemian hwy back to the town of occidental... back down graton road to the town of graton and back to sebastopol.
if you are lodging in the south end of sebastopol, then the trip down to tomales is fairly easy to find on a map, and the bakery there is most excellent as well... somewhat less hilly than the coastal loop described above
i should lead bakery bike rides!!!
