So, there kinda was an RBR ride early this morning with another lounger who's a lurker, wagsea6b.

He lives some 20 or so miles away from me and we kinda planned on a ride today. I contemplated the distance or more so, the amount of saddle time I'd have just because I haven't been riding much at all. And, to top it off, each of my 2 or 3 hour rides have really hurt so I wasn't really all gung-ho.

Nonetheless, I got up at 7 this morning and was still wondering but decided to htfu and go for it.

So off I went at 730 and got to his place around 9, almost getting lost along the way. I've never rode in that side of the city/country before so I wasn't familiar with the routes to take to get there.

Just before the ride started (Wags, Mrs. wags, Jim (sorry I really forgot his name but I think it was Jim):

<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/3338098066/" title="IMGP0091 by uzziefly, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3544/3338098066_2f147721ea_b.jpg" width="1024" height="766" alt="IMGP0091" /></a>

Off we went on a blazing hot day (it had to be about 90F at the very least. That, coupled with the crazy humidity, darned near busticate me) through some nice areas I must say. I didn't take that many pictures just because we were all riding at a good pace and chatting along the way as well.

Here are some sorta failed attempts at photos with my little point & shoot:

<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/3337274743/" title="IMGP0092 by uzziefly, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3603/3337274743_09d791e5e5_b.jpg" width="1024" height="766" alt="IMGP0092" /></a>

<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/3337278867/" title="IMGP0093 by uzziefly, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3576/3337278867_df926cdacb_b.jpg" width="1024" height="766" alt="IMGP0093" /></a>

<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/3337296613/" title="IMGP0099 by uzziefly, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3351/3337296613_a08fd51b55_b.jpg" width="1024" height="766" alt="IMGP0099" /></a>

(Look at mrs. wags pulling away. I bet she knew I was taking pictures and wanted to show her prowess!)

Was on a pretty rough surface so it was really shaky trying to get this shot:

<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/3338127792/" title="IMGP0102 by uzziefly, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3315/3338127792_36ae5bfc57_b.jpg" width="1024" height="766" alt="IMGP0102" /></a>

Between admiring the sights for the first time and trying to stabilize the camera on the go and also realizing there's not much optical zoom (5X) on my p&s:

<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/3337323501/" title="IMGP0101 by uzziefly, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3657/3337323501_7e716ae0b6_b.jpg" width="1024" height="766" alt="IMGP0101" /></a>

Stopped a little before mid ride to top off our bottles of water and I was already almost out of H20 as I kept pouring loads of water on myself to cool off. Wags is nuts, he likes the heat! Wtf???!!!!

<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/3337332263/" title="IMGP0103 by uzziefly, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3574/3337332263_133dc2ce80_b.jpg" width="1024" height="766" alt="IMGP0103" /></a>

<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/3338163904/" title="IMGP0106 by uzziefly, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3657/3338163904_4540d86905_b.jpg" width="1024" height="766" alt="IMGP0106" /></a>

We kept on going soon after and did a little detour on the way back to extend the route for a total of about 40 miles since we began at 9. All in all, it was good ride, with lots of rollers along the way and we did it in about 2h30min, already bringing my saddle time to 4 hours. I was so spent towards the end of the ride that I could barely stand on the pedals to climb or even ride at tempo at some segments.

Mrs. wags is a really good rider I must say. She's pretty good up the hills and can really tear it up on the flats too. There were several occasions where she just zoomed past me and the others on a descent easily.

I wished I took more pictures along the ride but after about 3 hours of total riding, my legs were really tired and I was in between getting burnt by the sun and trying not to get a heat stroke by pouring water all over my head. Surprisingly, the Lounge kit dried really quickly despite the humidity. Maybe it was just that hot.

Mrs. wags was kind enough to get me a coke on the way back to their crib and we hung out there for a little bit and she made an awesome grilled cheese sammich for lunch! Mmmm.

I took a cab back home from there though since it was kinda late and I wanted to get a nap in for the day too. But, I did stop a little bit away from home just so I could ride back for a short bit to spin the legs. Well, I almost couldn't even spin by that time.

Back home, showered, took a nap and Good God! My legs felt REALLY fatigued and it's just killing me now.

Longest ride I've ever done(both time and distance too I bet)! But man, it was really fun though, despite the heat.

Total time - 4 hours. Avg. speed, a shade under 17mph. Nothing major in terms of saddle time for many of you guys I'm sure but man, I won't be doing such long rides that often for sure.

Gonna hit the sack early now. G'night all!

Sporting a slight sunburn on the ride today(that's why I usually ride in the evening or even wear arm warmers. I get burnt quite easily) :

Yes, that's what the effin heat does to you (me).

70? Pfft. Try 90 at the minimum! I'll never ride early in the day again most likely. Unless it's a ride like this, then well, I'll do it, and suffer like crap.

You'd think I'd be used to the heat/humidity here. Nope, never got used to it. I recall suffering like crap for track practices when we had early morning sessions. I was darned near wiped out on the team bus back to school sometimes and looked visibly spent while some of my friends were all chatty etc.

//Despite you looking better in the kit (I realize why the grippers are loose - I lost a ton of weight apparently. No, seriously.), mine's the debut in this region of the world!

Good job on the ride, Uzz.

Riding in high temps doesn't bother me until the road turns vertical. Ugh.

glad you're getting some riding in - i got kicked out of the house at 8am
while it was still only 38. took me 45 minutes to feel warmed up, and even
then i was still slightly cold the whole ride. to top that all off, i didn't drink
enough for two hours, and was toast when i got home. i only managed to
do 32 miles(zone 2, so no speedwork.)

enjoy the temps!

Sounds like fun, all except for the heat. It was only 72 when mrs tcon and I rode today but if it hadn't been windy it would have been hot. Unfortunately we got mostly headwind and crosswind instead of tailwinds.

he needs to do block-sprints or hill repeats to build up those quads.
motorpacing is effective too. city buses have a HUGE pocket to hide
in out back.

I always suffer in the heat. I'd much rather do climbs actually coz it's less monotonous and while it's probably worse, I don't focus on the heat. Sorta.
