Depends what you want

I don't know what you mean by "not worth the effort." They're a good sturdy rim, able to handle wider tires than some. Not particularly light. They were popular for touring, rough-duty commuter bikes, etc. If you don't care too much about weight, and want something that will take some abuse and last a long time, and if you get a good deal, who knows? Their sturdiness makes them easy to build up, I suspect, which might matter to you.

If you want the lightest possible wheels, they're not what you're looking for.
