My brother bought a VERY nice Pinarello, and he sprung for the Mavic 'Bones clinchers.

He bought some Vittoria tires that are approved for 150 PSI max, and he actually inflated them to that value. He says it "makes him faster". ( I know, I know....):D

I told him I thought it was dangerous to inflate a clincher tire to that PSI, and that most wheels have a max PSI for the rim to prevent roll-off of the tire.

I need some good ammo from the techies here to prove what a dumb @ss he is being, and get him to inflate the tire to a more sane value. He's actually a good brother, and I'd like to keep him around for a while.
Also any first hand accounts of tire roll-off and the results would be great.

Thanks!

Maximum pressure depends on tire width. Here is a link: http://www.fitfanatics.com/pages/Bike/wheels.htm. Scroll down the page for the data on the carbones.

In any case, 150 psi exceeds the recommended maximum pressure for even the narrowest tires.

Hope this helps.

It does help. Thanks for the info and the link!

I emailed it to him....says he'll "let a little out"
