When did this show up? Why do some mechanical 6800 braze-on front derailleurs have it, and some don't?

AFAIK all shimano 11sp have this.
105 5800
Ultegra 6800
Dura Ace 9100
I own and all have it

Well damn. evan326, you're right. I had looked at my 6800, and didn't see it, read your reply... went back to look closer (with my #%$&ing glasses on) and yep - it's there. I've installed three 6800 front derailleurs and missed it each time. That's pretty bad.

You have no idea how right you are... I was helping a friend who'd never installed a derailleur before. He's new to wrenching (not riding) but learning fast. I've been building bikes for 40+ years so, why would I have to read a manual for a simple derailleur install. HE pointed out that screw... 'cause he'd read the manual. Yep. RTFM.

There are other, perhaps better reasons to read the manual for that particular derailleur. Not the least of which is the cable routing at the pin/cinch bolt.

When set up properly, it's a fine, smooth shifting derailleur. If it's not, it's a hot mess.

And on some bikes that little screw only hits air. Trek Domane 600 comes to mind because of the seat tube shaping. So it cannot always be used.

Anyway, it is nice when it can be used.

Don't forget to use the little stick on piece of metal for it to press against.
Sometimes folks forget to stick that on the frame.

Don't ya love getting schooled like that? One of our guys that's not a full time mechanic built a bike w/ the new 9100 D/A the other and was raving about how well the new front derailleur shifted. I took a look at it and said 'It's even better when you set it up correctly'...I had him watch the install video and heard him say 'ooooohhhh' at least 3 times!
