Grand Rapids, MI - The Meijer Grand Cycling Classic, scheduled for this Sat., August 8 in the Arena District of downtown Grand Rapids, will draw some of the country's top women riders including Beijing Paralympian Cycling Medalist and Grand Rapids native Mackenzie Woodring.

Zeeland-based Herman Miller has announced sponsorship of the Women's Race, a first for the three-year-old pro-am cycling criterium.

"Herman Miller is committed to the wellness of its employees and community, and we're delighted to sponsor a family friendly cycling event that supports the health and well-being of all ages and skill levels," said Herman Miller President and CEO Brian Walker.

In addition to their Women's Race sponsorship, Herman Miller will award Embody chairs, the first work chairs to support both the mind and the body, to the winners of the Herman Miller Women's Race and the Men's Pro race.

"The women's field is very thankful to the great support from Herman Miller and Meijer," said Woodring. "Without these key sponsors, there wouldn't be a Meijer Classic this year."

Woodring, who won the Women's Race in the 2007 Priority Health Grand Cycling Classic, took Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in cycling when she served as pilot for rider Karissa Whitsell in the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing. She currently rides for the U.S. National Paralympic Team and Priority Health West.

"Our team is incredibly excited about this race," said Woodring. "It's a great venue and challenging course right in the heart of downtown GR. I'm looking forward to sprinting and cornering on the cobblestones at speeds of 25-35 mph! The cobbles definitely make this criterium unique."

The Herman Miller Women's Race is scheduled for 1:55 - 2:40 p.m. A full race schedule, course map and registration information are available at . All events are free and open to spectators.

Bicycle racks, provided courtesy of CycleSafe, will be available for spectators and families who ride bikes to the event. Racks will be located in City of Grand Rapids Parking Area 2 off of Oakes directly behind the Van Andel Arena.
