I just got my new pack of Dura-Ace shift cables in and am ready to install them this weekend. I've never used this set of cables before and was surprised when only one of the ferrules was metal. Is there a preferred place for the metal ferrule to go in the shifting system?

Not sure about where the metal ferule is used.

But on my 10sp Dura ace Rear Derailluer the cable got stuck in the barrel adjuster and I couldn't use the barrel adjuster on the derailluer. I solved the problem by replacing the cables, but it was an ugly job. My friends bike had the same problem....

No matter what make sure you grease or use teflon spray where the cable housing goes into the barrel adjuster.....
