they're fine...
The notches are big enuf to hold the cog perfectly.
Do tighten down your lockring to feel secure though, as it does look a little scary, at first.
I found w/a Phil lockring, I had to reverse it because the shoulder hit just below the notches. Not a problem, but it means that the lockring notches are then flush to the cog, which, in turn means, that you'll not be able to use a Var plier type tool to remove the lockring. Old Park SPA-3 works fine...
Also, after each of the first couple of rides, tighten down the lockring, again, as the cog and carrier have tightened themselves down on the hub.
