I'm 50 and in the midst of a mid-life crisis. I think a career change is in order and after extensive research and consultation with vocational experts I have narrowed my choices down to the following:

* Jedi knight
* Ninja
* International assassin

As for the second option I'm pretty bald so a man bun would be hard to pull off, but I could wear a piece if necessary.

Thoughts/advice?

Also, if you remember Batman Begins, Batman's pretty much a ninja.

So you could be Batman.

Which would have the added bonus of allowing you to come up to Michael Keaton one day, and say, in a gravelly voice: "You're not Batman!"

A black bandana or welding cap might do the trick. Or a Fabio-style wig if you want to go for the viking look.

Do what you love, but consider the money.

International assassins are usually private contractors, and the paperwork is a nightmare. But the pay is great. Ninjas work for organizations, so think corporate world rat race and pay rates based on level in the organization. Sure, the killing is great in both, but think about the day to day and what is important to you.

Jedi, well, do you really want to live in a hovel or a swamp upon retirement? And given the other two on the list, I think Jedi is out of the running. Sith, sure, but the burnout rate for Sith apprentices is pretty high.

I would think that just becoming a "mob hit man" would combine all the better elements, and would be something more easily achieved...

Have you considered being a Civil War Reenactor? I hear the pay is OK and the food is good. I guess being an international assassin might have its benefits; cool travel locations, air miles and night vision goggles.

I vote Ninja.The bald thing isn't really a factor in this. International assassin sounds cool but you have to keep up a stylish wardrobe and plane travel sucks these days. Of course limiting your international travel to Canada could avoid that, like drive back and forth Detroit/Windsor.

Ever consider Burger King fry cook? Not too hard to break into that field.

You never considered Wizard, Mall Santa, Unicorn Hunter, Full-Time Sperm Donor?

When I went over to Europe in '91, I rented a car at Tour time so that I could more easily follow the tour than on my loaded touring bike. I took the rental a week early so that I could dash up to catch the 24 Hours of LeMans. In the campground a group of youngish (twenty something) motorcycle riders out of London befriended me and started calling me "Hitman". They all had nicknames and that was the one they gave me. It wasn't until much later that it hit me - there I was a mid-thirties American with no visible means of support just cruising around western Europe with his toys (nice bike, nice tent, etc)...

I've been wondering the same things and come to the conclusion that career elimination, not change, is the only path to satisfaction for me.
Now I just need to figure out how to finance that. I'm not holding my breath.

holding your breath could be just the path to this without missing any change of lifestyle.
