I recently recieved a set of Cane Creek Volos XLs from Bike Nashbar, despite ordering a set of CC Volos Sterlings from their site. It turns out they never had Sterlings in stock, only the XLs, and there's no way they'll find and send me the right wheels.

So, I'm wondering if I got a bad deal here or not. Does anyone with more knowledge of the old CC road wheelsets know what the difference is between the XLs and Sterlings? For ~$300, are they keepers, or should I return them and find something better for a comparable amount of cash?

IIRC the XLs have a 30mm rim, whereas the sterlings are a shallower rim.

(CC used to have all the specs of their old wheels on their site, but they appear to be long gone)

Cool, thanks for that bit of info. Your recollection that the stats were on the CC site in the past allowed me to look them up using the Wayback Machine at archive.org:

The CC Volos Sterlings:

So, it looks like the difference is, indeed, mostly in the rims. Which, according to CC, makes the XLs more durable at the cost of about 150g.
