Hello all,

I have an opportunity to be in Moab in the fall, and could potentially have a cross bike with me. I've never been there, much less ridden there, so I was wondering if anyone had any insight?

I realize that perhaps this should go into a Mt. Bike forum, but realistically, I won't be mt. biking. I wanted to know if the famous Slickrock trail was doable on a cross bike. I'm a pretty solid cross rider - i.e. I will take it on the singletrack and just run anything I can't ride, but there are definitely places where I'd rather not go because there is just so much unrideable stuff that it isn't fun. On the other hand, lots of singletrack is fast and smooth with minor roots & rocks, and thus great fun on a cross bike!

Thanks in advance!

it's a lot of years since I rode Moab. Slickrock has some pretty steep ups and downs, so a good gear range would be useful, and the fattest tyres you can fit in the frame, traction isn't going to be a problem so semislicks would be an option. I'd say you are going to have more fun and ride more on an mtb but I'd give it a go on a cross bike if I had the chance. Let us know if you try it.
