The Dew Tour action sports event was this past weekend in San Francisco and RoadBikeReview was in attendance. Besides the awesome BMX, skate and freestyle motocross competitions going on right in Civic Center plaza, there was also a pretty big vendor expo area with a lot going on. As one of the main sponsors of the Dew Tour, Mongoose had several bikes on display including mountain bike, BMX bikes, kid's bikes and a couple of fixies. Featured here are the Maurice and Maurice FS singlespeed/fixie bikes from their current lineup.

The Maurice is a 4130 chromoly double-butted fixie frame and is nicely matched with a Unicrown chromoly fork with curved blades. It has a 44×18t singlespeed drivetrain that includes a flip-flop rear hub just in case you don't want to fully commit. Other spec highlights include the Tektro brakes, Freedom (by WTB) Thick Slick 25c tires, Odyssey Adam Banton grips and requisite narrow (25.4mm) fixie handlebars.

The Maurice comes in only one color, the Matte White (with orange) shown here. It is available in 4 sizes (XS, S, M, L) and has a retail price of $549.99.

From the manufacturer:
"The Maurice is not your average singlespeed. With a full 4130 chromoly double butted frame and chromoly fork that sit on top of Weinmann Thunderbird rims wrapped in Freedom Thick Slicks, the Maurice is an urban street slayer."

Maurice FS

Like the Maurice, the Maurice FS is a 4130 chromoly double-butted fixie frame and it is paired with a Unicrown FS chromoly fork with straight blades. The FS stands for freestyle and it has slightly different geometry. Besides the fork, the bar and stem on the FS is one piece with the stem having 40mm of rise and 50mm of reach. The bar has 50mm of rise.

The Maurice FS comes in a Smoked Chrome finish and it is pretty sharp. It is available in 4 sizes (S, M, L, XL) and has a similar retail price of $549.99.

Like all Mongoose bikes, the Maurice and Maurice FS are available direct to consumers from the Mongoose website.

From the manufacturer:
"Take everything good about the Maurice, throw a more aggressive geometry in the mix along with one-piece chromoly stem/bar combination, top tube wraps and pedal straps, and you've got yourself a fixie that can turn any urban ride into a full-on freestyle session."

Our Take

Mongoose is a brand that has a lot of bike history and the Dew Tour event is a great match for them since their brand is still very strong in the BMX segment. The two fixies shown here are no-nonsense, simple rides that will suit many an urban rider.
