I've got my first race this weekend. It is a collegiate race. I am doing the B race, which is 45 miles. I don't have much experience riding with others, so I plan on hanging towards the back and holding on. From what I've heard, they go at a speed I should be able to keep up with. My question is about sensors and monitors. Do they get messed up during races with the close proximity to other riders? I've got a Polar S520 with cadence sensor. Can I expect it to function normally the whole race?

Using a HRM with memory durning a race, is fine, but you won't have time to look at it, until after the race. It's also not safe to be looking down while things are going on all around you. I've never had "problems" with my Polar in a race. I just download everything when I get home, and look at it then.
