While the weather has been around 60F recently, spring has not yet made it to western NY. Here's what the canal looks like "in the winter" when it's mostly drained. We did a short ride out for coffee this morning in Fairport. You should recognize a few of the locations from the other Erie Canal thread.

Thanks! The winters around here are not so bike friendly, although there are surprising number of people riding year-round. I like to throw on a pair of cross country skis or snow shoes instead.

It was low 60's for much of last week, but the average high is still only 43F (avg. low is 27F). I'm guessing we'll have one more big snow storm before spring really comes. I love the summers because the average high is low 80's. My wife and I still like to head up to the Adirondacks when that's too hot for us.

From all your pictures, that looks like such a fun area to ride.
