Not sure if anyone is interseted, but next week the Mt. Hood Classic stage race is starting near Hood River, Oregon. Since it's beginings a few years back it's been gaining stature and now is on the US national calender. Lots of climbing in this one, but they've also added a 'regular' road state for the 1-2s to even things out a bit on comparativly flat circuit. Traditionally, many of the 'big gun' domestic pros have been at the Waucovia in Philly this week, but I understand the sponsor has dropped that one, so maybe we will see some of the eastern riders make a trip out west here for the MHC. The final day's Three Summit RR rivals any stage of the european grand tours with 7500' of climbing in three passes right on the shoulder of Mount Hood. Starts high on Mt. Hood's flank, drops into the valley and climbs back. 2300' first pass, 2100', then 2400' climbing right back to the finish..not a lot of flat and some 15% pitches..guessing. Should be very good racing. Mthoodcyclingclassic.com will get you onto the website of the event, if you are interested in what is shaking up here in the Pacific Northwest this early summer.
