So I got a Selle San Marco Caymano from Nashbar for a great price $53 last weekend and it arrived a day early, yesterday and on it went. Here are some photo's of it on the bike.

I am coming off of a SSM Rolls which caused unwelcomed perineal pressure. My first impressions of the Caymano are: "Holy crap it is hard!" and "Wow, I feel every little thing on the road". The rolls cushioned more then I realized BUT it does seem to fit my ass a lot better then the rolls.

So I realized that I am in the flatter type of saddle camp, though maybe not the totally flat and that the thinner size suits me or so it seems as I haven't put any time on it but from what I can tell it is agreeable.

So now I am on a quest for what would be the best perch for me. I am thinking about also getting a SSM apside, some variant either the arrowhead or standard apside with Ti rails and also thinking about a prologo Nago Evo or Nago Evo TR. Ride the three saddles and keep the best. (Any other recommendations to consider?)

I also have a question which is concering saddle break in. Now we have break in of gear in the highend stereo industry but I am not fimilar (too neubie) to know what to expect with saddle break in, how long, what changes may or may not happen, broken in but still not right etc.

I have the standard Apside and it is pretty narrow and rounded. For my sit bones, a saddle that is a bit flatter on the top and about 10-12mm wider should do it. My search continues as well. The SKN on the errand bike has been comfortable but that bike sees maybe 2-3 mile runs so a longer test is needed.

Stopped by a Specialized store yesterday and was looking through their selection...some seem pretty nice.

The SKN is one that I have also been thinking about as well as a Regal e but they are both in the 150mm range. Presently I am thinking (I know, dangerous ) that 130''s are a better fit for my narrow arse

Selle Italia has supposedly re-released the "original" Flite, now dubbed 'Flite 1990'. Might be worth taking a look.

consider the Form E3 (performance and nashbar have an exclusive). Flat at the sitbones, narrow on the nose. I haven't seen any other saddle with the sharp transition from back to nose, this is the only one that doesn't interfere with my big fat hammies.

Thanks Guys. I have yet to try a totally flat saddle like the selle italia's, though I guess some would consider the Caymano pretty much flat that back end curves up a little. The Flite Gel Flow looks very interesting and I might give that a try at some point.

You might give the Caymano a little more time. I replaced my Regal saddle with a brand new Regal and it was hard for the first week or so. The Rolls is more flatter. The Aspide worked fine for me unless I was on flat roads, then not enough support.

Hi Dinosaur - I plan to, I am just on some sort of saddle jag and want to give a couple different ones a try and see if I can find one that really works well for me.

I've been watching ebay seeing what I can get a for a good deal, it's kind a fun . And I guess reporting back on my findings might help someone who is as clueless as I am if the have a similar build (maybe not though). I guess I should figure out what my sit bones measure as that might be useful info, all I know now is my butts narrow. I'm 5'10" 170lbs but as the spring and summer roll on I will probably drop down to the low 160's.

Your weight doesn't change your skeletal structure. Your "sitbones" are pretty much set in cement.

Not wanting to sound like a shill for Trek/Bontrager, but they have a little bench that measures your sit points and then directs you to the right width saddle. Three widths, 128, 146, and 154 in the Inform R, RL, and RXL. About 75% of men will come in at 146. I have a very skinny friend who measured at 128 and the Inform R is the first saddle in years that didn't kill him.

Despite the fact that the entire industry raved about the Fizik Arione, it was the first saddle in 40 years of riding that I just couldn't stand. I've ridden Rolls, Regals, Turbos, Concors, and my favorite, the Flite TI. Still have the Selle Italias on three bikes and a Brooks B17 on the commuter but I must say, the 146 Inform RXL is fast becoming my favorite saddle.

But saddles are so "personal." What works for me and lord knows what percentage of the population may not work for you.

I also like the Selle Italia SLR. Just picked up a Regal and can't decide if I like it. Hurt me yesterday but some folks say it takes time to break in. I'm not that big and it might be too wide at the nose for me. Going to give it a few more rides though.

Excel Sports sells the original Flite-$99.99. I have the old Flite Gel. I bought it when they were being discontinued for $83.00. I can't decide between it and my Regal. I am riding with a Regal now. Nice to see that S.I. is bringing this saddle back.

Thanks! Got it last Fall for $1500 shipped from CO to PA, I thought it was a pretty good deal. With the new saddle (the rolls was a bit chunky WW has it listed at like 385g) and without the bike bag I think I am in the low 17lbs range maybe even high 16's. The frame is supposed to be1120g.

I had a DeBanardi that was an Aluminum frame and this just rides so much nicer it's silly :thumbsup:

Ok on a purely aesthetic point of view, think a white saddle look ok on the bike. I have my eye on a white prologo that is at a really good price. That is the only way I can justify playing with saddles is to get them at a great deal.

The new Antares 00 looks great and has the features I want, but it's not cheap at $290.

Ok, I just got yesterday

A Prologo Nago Evo TR. It is coming from the UK so it will be a bit before I get my grubby mitts on it.

The Nago and the Caymano are both similar sized so it will be very interesting to do the comparison. The loser will either be relegated to my MTB; an old suspension-less aluminum trek 7000, which I didn't ride mostly because it need an overhaul. Or it will go up on 'bay.

get a specialized phenom,or toupe, or alias saddle, probably a 143 width. i like the phenom nice mix of comfort and flatness

that my Dad has/had (he's now trying my ex-Rolls) on his Scott and it didn't fit my butt too well though haven't tried the toupe or phenom. Right now I am going to ride on the San Marco and the Prologo and see if either of the two are comfy, comfy for me

Flattest thing I've ever ridden is the Fizik Antares. Liked it, but not quite enough padding for a big guy (i.e. me).
