I'm a total beginner to road cycling and am choosing my first bike based on its color... :blush2: Primary reason i'm starting cycling is to lose some weight and just plain get outside :)

Here are the three bikes:

Trek Pilot 1.0 http://www2.trekbikes.com/bikes/bike.php?bikeid=1402000&f=2

Trek 1000 http://www2.trekbikes.com/bikes/bike.php?bikeid=1413000&f=4

Specialized Allez Triple http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=12390&bikeTab=techspec

There are so many components to these bikes that I'm not sure which is better than the other, so maybe some of you veterans can point the major differences out :) Visually inspecting the bikes, the Allez Triple and 1000 seem to have a leveled drop bar while the Pilot is angled.

I think the Pilot is more of a touring bike and has a more upright position. The other two are about the same equipment wise so I would recommend you go to your lbs and ride them and see what feels more comfortable. I have the Allez Sport Triple and it's geometry is geared more towards a racing position as I would suspect the Trek 1000 is. Just get the one that feels good. I love my Allez and the more time I spend on it the more comfortable I feel. Good luck with your decision.

I have the Allez Triple, and I LOVE it...great bike, but it is aggressive and nimble, and definitely has more of a racing geometry. Some people don't like that. Ride both, buy the one that makes you want to ride....and don't be embarassed about color. I always tell people to buy a bike they love to look at, it's more likely to make you fall in love with the thing and want to ride it every day.

I recently was deciding between those two bikes and also a Lemond Reno. I did not like the Sora on the trek 1000, So my choice was between the Lemond reno and I choose the specialized allez sport because it felt better to me. So far 400 miles later the bike feels better every ride.
