I need help identifying a chain for my current bike project. The chain is for a Ross Professional Super Grand Tour - circa late 70's/early 80's with a 5 speed cassette, double crank, and friction shifters. The chain appears to be brass plated and has the following markings:

- The even links has a U inside a shield shape
- The odd links say W. Germany
- One of the links says 399

Although I had already posted something similar under a different thread, I found out today that some of the information was wrong. I figured that if I put the new information under a more appropriate thread title, that I might have a better chance of identifying this mystery chain.

Thanks in advance.

The only German chains I can think of were Sachs/Sedis/Sedisport -- good chains, and if I recall correctly, this was the company that eventually became SRAM.
