After Giro d'Italia's stage 10, it looks like there are just over half a dozen riders with negative points within the overall points classification , including Jason McCartney (USA) Discovery Channel (-5 points.)

( scroll down 2/3; points classification is listed right after general class.)

Is this a pro tour points system, or just used within the Giro? Finally, anyone know how a rider is denoted with such negative points?

Thanks in advance;
ride on,

Penalties (negative points) are given for infractions like hanging onto the team car, giving a teammate a push, etc. McEwen, for example, probably gets assessed negative points for some of his "rough riding" at times, but he wins so many sprint points it doesn't matter.
