Listening to Le Noise now. I like it. Then again I also liked the somewhat panned Trans. Still not sure if Lanois' stamp is needed here, but it is unique and takes Neil in a new direction.

//FWIW my new puppy doesn't much like all the feedback. :D

interesting he reprises "Like an Inca" in his new song Hitchhiker...since Trans was a very similar departure for his sound back then.

the only young i had already was harvest. i'm a fan but not an educated one...any other recommendations for less-folksy stuff?

btw i recently discovered AiC's "black gives way to blue"...happily surprised.

If you like his loud and distorted stuff it's hard to beat Live Rust or his work with Crazy Horse on other albums. On the Beach is also a pretty cool album as is Zuma.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse

May be out of print. I have it on vinyl. Came out in the early 80s.

edit...looks like you can still buy it, but sounds like they may have changed some things according to this review:

However, I want to warn those of you who, like me, remember "Sample and Hold" and would consider buying this CD to get hold of that tune. Do not do it. The version included on this disk is some sort of watered-down Muzak version. The drums are practically inaudible, replaced by an obviously synthetic "swish" snare drum and a completely straight four-beat with synthetic hand claps. I think this remix was a very poor attempt to appeal to the European techno-pop crowd (Chemical Bros, etc.--note that this disk is an import, from Sweden), but they ruined the song in the process. "Computer Age", "We R In Control", and "Computer Cowboy" have survived intact, and because I really enjoy those tunes I give the disk three stars in spite of the fact that the producers ruined the best song on it.

that is weird they changed Sample and Hold to some remix version. I think this is the original though the audio quality is marginal.

Oh yeah...that's a great version where they just jam forever.

thanks, i've been reading about the releases of trans tracks. definitely an odd phase for n.y., and maybe requires an altered state.

i'm willing to chase down any version of mr. soul. usually don't like Rush that much, but they have a surprisingly good cover of mr soul.

cowboy in the sand: agree, it's at the top of neil and crazy horse's music.

...along with 'down by the river' with some great riffs.

can one of you brilliant moreons direct me on posting a video within RBR?
