Hello!

Does somone know if the new Shimano R700 10sp Compact Crankset is
compatible with a 9 speeds Ultegra cassette? Does it require a 10 speeds
chain or work will work with my 9 speeds chain?

Shimano will tell you that its not compatible, but I've used their 10-speed compact cranksets with a 9-speed drivetrain on a number of bikes and have had no problems at all.

here's what I think

The crank does not care if the cassette is 8,9, or 10 speeds. And I'd guess the 9 cassette would prefer a 9 chain and the 10 crank won't care about that.
