Hi all,

First post here, I'm excited to get my new S-Works SL4 on the road!

I've got a minor question about chain slap. I looked through the Tarmac picture thread, and noticed there wasn't much on the chainstay for protection. Is chain slap something I should worry about or protect against, how durable is the paint, and the tape protection installed from Specialized?

Unless you're traversing super rough roads, the biggest cause of chain slap will likely be a binding freehub.

Periodic maintenance will prevent that and other, assorted issues.

Thanks. I do hit some pretty rough roads, I get some slap on my ti bike. I'm not going to worry about for now.

After my ride tonight, I'm more concerned with the brake cable rattle, and my chain coming off when applying torque from a stop. Any suggestions on the chain coming off? I've got 2014 S-Works cranks / alloy spider, and Praxis rings.

Cable donuts should solve the rattle.

To correct the chain dropping when applying torque, you'll first need to find the cause. Could be the BB and/ or any part of the crank assembly flexing, but the easiest way to compensate may be to make a small adjustment to the FD's limit screw, moving the cage in slightly.

I'll for sure get the donuts. I think I'm also missing a cable stop too. I'll stop in the shop tomorrow. Here's a quick pic to show what I'm working with. Ignore the stem, I'm still playing with fit too.

Sounds like the shop missed a couple of things before delivery, so IMO they should sort all this out for you.
