alloy rim wheels with a non-structural carbon fairing, like some of HED models, seem like a nice solution to build a deep section wheel that is durable, has a consistent brake track etc. I was wondering why there aren't more wheeels around using this design (seems like a nice way to make an everyday wheel). Is this use of carbon as essentially a fairing legal - would anyone in a domestic non NRC race care? Shouldn't it be possible to make a more affordable version of this type of wheel?
