Interesting read. 500 miles service intervals sounds a bit excessive. I have a pair of 482-11/291 hubs on Kinlin 479w and have no hint of play after 500 miles with them. They have only seen rain once though, maybe things would be worth in constant rain?

Would be curious to hear other's experiences with the Novatec 482 hub.

I have two sets.
Both have well over 2500 miles on them, with one set seeing use exclusively during winter. Both sets have extremely smooth bearings now that the seals are broken in, and feel as though they still have plenty of life left in them.

I believe the blogger is UK-based, so it's quite possible he deals with damp/dank/wet riding conditions more than most.

I've built up 2 sets using the 291SB front and 482SB rear (both sets from bdopcycling.com). Both sets eventually went to friends who have over 1000 miles on them with no probs in dry California weather.

The flange spacing in the rear is really nice. I like the wide spaced BHS front hub, but the Novatec 291SB didn't feel any less stiff under hard cornering to me.

I know guys like November Bicycles and Hoops Wheels uses them. Great bang for the buck IMO.
