numb foot in road shoes.

Since I moved to road shoes and pedals I've been experiencing numbness in my left foot. 2-3 outward toes and adjacent part of the foot keep getting numb.

My suggestion is that it happens because I put more pressure on the outward part of my foot when pedalling. Could I be right? Can I cure it by tilting my shoe with a small wedge under the left cleat?

wedges and arch support/insoles would be my first suggestion. They have made a big difference for me..comfort, pain reduction, and better performance. Get a fit done, or do some experimentation.
Toe box width?

Another thing to consider is toe box width. It may be that these shoes are too narrow for your foot, or that you have the straps/closure set too tight.
I was using a shoe that turned out to be a half size too small, and not using
an insole with sufficient arch support. I am using the Specialized Red. Can
anyone recommend a good medium arch insole? Also, I noticed on very hard
rides, foot numbness is more of a problem, but that applies to all contact points
as well.
specialized makes 3 levels of arch supports...red, blue, and green. The blues are medium-support. They come with in-shoe wedge plates to help correct foot-knee angle issues.
