I need the names of a couple of shops in Manhattan that rent roadbikes. Also any local rides or races that a decent Cat 4 rider can participate in this week.

Lets see. Chelsea Bikes, Gotham and Toga all rent bikes. You'll have to call to see what the prices are and what they have in stock. As far as races, why not come out to Prospect Park? There's a race on Saturday. Other than that there's Bear Mtn. on Sunday, but the fields filled a long time back.

Metro Bikes on 6th Ave. at 15th St. rents bikes and helmets. Last I saw they even rented carbon Treks. Ask for Alejandro.
