From my thinkCooper RBR Blog

Oh compact crank with gears so small
who'd have thought I could climb it all?
From short little pitches with a little rise,
to steep nasty b1tches that burn my thighs...
My spin puts me over, over the top,
then I shift to the 50 and never stop.
Oh compact crank from Shimano,
My legs, lungs and heart say I love you so.

It's funny how you can't read the logo when it's spinning up a hill. :D

But you just know!!

I did a climbing clinic last month, I was the only one there not on either a compact or a triple.

Funny thing, the bikes I have with compacts, I love them, absolutely love them.

two ranges - high and low. I have changes the small rings to 36 on most - but I love 'em.

I love the poem, but man, that's a Shimano!!!!

Threw the compact on Friday night, right before a 100 mile 7000' ride, Saturday morning. My Kestrel runs DA7800 so swapping out the crank with an Ultegra SL was a no-brainer - same bearings, no change to the front derailleur... Anyway, I was really happy with the difference. And I found that I didn't notice overspinning on the descents. At any point I was in the 125+ rpm cadence range, it was better to coast to reduce drag. I've a hunch it would've been the same experience if I were spinning my 52/11 at that same ground speed. Tuck and glide for top speed. The only time I'd see a problem with the 50/11 would be during a sprint.

"Oh compact crank, you make me go,
My legs, lungs and heart say I love you so."

You probably liked this ending from the director's cut better.
