to start my cyclocross adventure. I have enough road bike parts to get it done, with the exception of the brakes. Now what would be better single chain ring or two. This is a pic of the bike I just bought the frame set.

I'm completely biased on the gear thing, but I'll skip that.

If you put on 2 rings, can you spin at a 150 cadence in the big ring and the small cog (probably a 12) long enough to make a difference in a CX race? I haven't seen anyone "spinout" their big ring small cog combo in a CX race yet.

Another ring + another der + another shifter = 4 more possible mechanical problems in a typically mucky event. (The 4th is the possibility of throwing the chain during any front shift.)

And another minor consideration- during every shift, there's a loss of overall efficiency.

I've got nothing to back any of this info with, just my observations while racing my "biased' configured CX bike.
